Ticket Dismissal

Defensive Driving in Texas and Texas Ticket Dismissal

When you are stopped in Texas for a moving violation, a Texas police officer will issue you a traffic ticket. The ticket will tell you how to contact the court with jurisdiction over your ticket, in addition to information about how to dismiss your ticket. Whether you want to plead “not guilty” in court or plead “guilty” and pay the fine, you must contact the Texas court within 10 days of getting the ticket and tell them.

Texas Online Defensive Driving Courses for Texas Ticket Dismissal

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has licensed dozens of defensive driving providers who offer courses that you can take to dismiss a ticket. Texas defensive driving classes and Texas defensive driving internet courses have become approved in Texas, which is good news for drivers who get a ticket.

Registering for a Texas Defensive Driving Course

If you are eligible to attend defensive driving for ticket dismissal, you will have two options:

  • Sign-up for a defensive driving class and attend a six-hour classroom led by a live instructor. Some classroom providers offer a free meal with the course!
  • Sign-up for an online Texas defensive driving course and complete the course online, at your own pace, for a much lower price than a class.
We recommend taking defensive driving online if you are a busy person who may not have time to sit through a live defensive driving class, or if you cannot afford to pay the higher cost of an instructor-led classroom defensive driving program. Whichever option you choose, you will be issued a uniform certificate of completion once you successfully complete the defensive driving class which you must present to your court by or before your court due date.
You will get two copies of the certificate of completion for Texas defensive driving: one for the court and one for your insurance company. Once they have obtained a copy of your certificate of completion, the court will dismiss your ticket and your insurance agent may give you a 10% discount on your liability insurance premium. This is called a “safe driver” discount and can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars per year on your premium.
